Re: Sprint offer.
I purchased a Sony dual mode CDMA(1201) last month for emergency purposes. Cost $175.00 less $50.000 rebate. Signed on then for Sprint 15 mins a mo. @$16.99 + 4.99 for voice mail. Called Sprint yesterday and they modified plan ( no contract) to the new 100mins., no problem. This deal is good thru January 2000(y2k permitting). Had been using Nokia 6100(TDMA) on ATT but no coverage in my area so useless if nearby my home. Also Nokia cumbersome to operate with large fingers, as keys are tiny, tiny and menu keys are difficult so returned it for the Sony. Nokia had a long standby time, but not necessary to me as I keep the Sony plugged in to my cigarette lighter most of the time so no problem w/standby. Also Sony voice clearer and much higher audio level which is easily adjusted while speaking with volume control/function wheel. Unfortunately Qualcomms were sold out the day I returned the Nokia. Sorry about that fella's, but needed phone NOW as going on trip and worried about 93 yr. old MaMa. Hope this additional info helps. Luck K

John, they are sure looking for a pound of flesh with $0.35 per minute over 100 minutes. They are using the cigarette and heroin sales concept = get them hooked then charge like a wounded bull. The wounded bull which got the matador in the derriere confirms the concept. There is huge scope for price declines and price elastic avalanches into cellular instead of wireline when dinkum p-----g is in the offing.

Personally, I don't think the average subscriber enjoys being carried away by the wounded bull p-----g model and they will be so resentful that as soon as some straightforward p-----g is offered, they'll get off the horn and go to a happier place. Since you haven't heard it for a day or two, the obvious p-----g model is peripheral processing.

It's nice to see Qualcomm phones sold out, as it suggests big demand. It would be nicer to actually sell them though.

23 days to go! [This time Kenneth - there was just a slight market crunch got in the road last time]

PS1: Yes, I suffered a little brain spasm on the 'bit rate' instead of 'chip rate' in the cdma2000 standard. Thanks for correcting me.

PS2: A bit of shameless advertising - check out Tarken's web site
snowadventures.co.nz
for their snowadventures company. They've had one customer from Japan although there was no snow. You can see a current photo of Mount Ruapehu at the 'Ruapehu Cam' clicking place [updated every 20 minutes]. Not erupting just now. Not much snow either. All his own work on the Web site. The solitary, spoiled, customer had the time of his life anyway. What a lot of fun it is to be young and carefree!

PS3: Yes, I've seen the Pogo "The enemy is us" classic.
