Hi Guys:

It takes a very complex machine to test an IC. It does not matter if the chip is packaged or on the wafer. It's the same machine. The difference is getting the chip connected to that machine. The mechanism to do this is called a handler. Teradyne makes mainly testers but has just entered the handler business in it's Kinetrix subsidiary.
