Fred - Re: " I use ZIP disks routinely to transfer data between my notebook and desktops."

I bought LapLink to do that function.

It has some neat features that make file transfer - and maintaining identical folders via updating - a real breeze. Of course, it doesn't offer back up storage.

Fred and Ibexx - Off topic - Notebooks...

One other thing - IBM and Toshiba offers DVD, Sony does not, Dell does as an option. Maybe not important for some, but if you are going to keep the notebook for awhile, a nice feature to have. Sony has the worst warranty I have seen, IBM and Toshiba give you the three years on their premium models, and I agree it's very important. I much prefer the pointing stick also as every touchpad I have tried does not have the accuracy of the stick. Also, on IBM models such as the 600 and 770 series, there is a third button below the two standard mouse buttons that controls a zoom and scroll feature similar to that on the Microsoft Intellimouse. Good luck with your choice....

PS - Out of all the manufacturers mentioned so far, only IBM offers a 14.1" screen. Toshiba will on it's next series of Tecra machines. I have seen this screen and it is far superior to the 12.1" ones you will get on the Sony machines. Dell offers a 13.3" screen, but I have not seen a sample....
