DataDirect Networks Wins Contract Valued at $20 Million for its MegaDrive EV Networked Fibre Channel RAID Systems CHATSWORTH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 12, 1998-- The Company's Disk Arrays Provide 25GB/Second Aggregate Throughput, Winning Against Data General Clariion and Amdahl in Gruelling Performance Tests DataDirect Networks Inc., leading the industry into the era of high-performance network data access for image-intensive applications, Wednesday announced that the company's MegaDrive EV-1000 Fibre Channel Disk Array emerged as the clear performance leader in a competitive selection process that pitted the EV-1000 against competing Amdahl, Data General Clariion and MaxStrat Fibre Channel products. Raytheon Inc. selected DataDirect Networks to supply high-performance disk arrays for the Raytheon Systems' EIS program following an exhaustive performance benchmark conducted at its Garland, Texas, computing facility in January 1998. The Raytheon EIS benchmark simulates a maximum-stress, transaction-intensive, high-performance computing environment consisting of multiple SGI Origin servers. The MegaDrive EV-1000, equipped with dual Fibre Channel controllers, defeated the Data General Clariion, Amdahl and MaxStrat disk arrays by delivering the highest effective data transfer rate generated by a suite of variable-size transactions. The benchmark environment consisted of a ten processor Silicon Graphics' Origin 2000 system. The Raytheon award will result in DataDirect Networks' shipment of 43 terabytes of EV Fibre Channel storage arrays configured to deliver an aggregate data transfer rate of 25GB per second. To date, DataDirect has installed 5.5 TB of EV RAID disk storage at the Raytheon site, with the remaining capacity to be supplied over the next 12 months. Integration services for the winning MegaDrive configuration will be provided by PTP. DataDirect Networks delivers networks for the new millennium. Leading the industry into the era of high-performance data access solutions, the company's systems are designed specifically to address the most demanding requirements of high-performance, cross-platform shared data access, network computing and integrated data management services. The company's focus is on data access solutions for high-performance, image-intensive network computing that eliminate performance bottlenecks, remove the barriers to collaborative processing and offer uncompromised data integrity and data management capabilities.
