Monty,

Yup and for those who say "that's just Asia" things aren't too rosy here either: (1.4 Million Americans went bankrupt, again I say Wow.)

Personal bankruptcies drive up caseload - courts
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Fueled by a rise in personal bankruptcies, the number of bankruptcy filings in U.S. federal courts rose 8.5 percent in the year ending June 30, 1998, a report said.

The rise in bankruptcy filings occurred despite a decline in the number of businesses filing for bankruptcy, according to the data compiled by the administrative office of the U.S. Courts and released Monday.

There were 1,429,451 filings in those 12 months, an all time high. That was up from 1,316,999 the previous year.
