SPY,,MDY,, and DIA are traded on the American Exchange. They are index linked. You can short them readily or go long. They are not options but you can buy them on margin. To short the Dow I would short MER, Merrill Lynch, you get a bigger bang for the dollar.
Meaning. the indexes are less responsive than an individual stock like Merrill.
