Slider, you want to hear something scary? I'm beginning to believe the sector is bottoming, but with one caveat (I think the same as yours). The sector risk at this point is market risk. I still won't be buying today, though. If the API numbers suck, I may buy any dip tomorrow morning. As for CDG vs. FLC, I don't have a view as to the risk that the deal would fall through. When I last checked, CDG was trading at 1.55X FLC'c price. If I were to choose, at that point I would definitely buy CDG. (But I'm not choosing.)
