Ron,

You misunderstood my exercise. I am not suggesting using the same criteria. In China's case, the pressing issues are (in no particular order): unemployment; flood damage; reforms in civil service; corruption, etc. For Korea: the yen; foreign debt coming due; labor unions; unemployment; etc. For Indonesia: where do you start?

I conclude that nothing good is coming from the region and its potential impact to the rest of the world cannot be ignored.

Many experts suggest buy stocks, don't buy the market. I normally would agree but this is a market that many of us have never seen before. In the long term, I do believe the market is efficient and will make the proper adjustments. At the moment, I simply believe that the global economy is way too off-balanced.

AMAT's numbers just released are in line with their July pre-announcement. Even assuming that they can meet future numbers, I don't think a dollar and change for FY99 justifies the current price.
