There seems to be a few examples of "anecdotal" evidence of a shortage - but as yet there have been very few (Compaq Servers is one) real reports from PC manufacturers.

Fred, Good post re AIT

I've done some forcasting in mature, domestic product categories in the past, and know first hand it is more art than science. In a still immature and dynamic industry like PC's, with worldwide demand influenced by economics and politics, I personally don't know how the Intel folks have a clue. Yet, when they report Q's, they always seem to be *relatively* close, three months before the fact. I wouldn't want the job of putting together those numbers, and having the revenue/profit of the company depend on my suppositions.
