Jim, thanks for your response to some of my postings. I suggest that you review my postings once again. You'll find that I have posted a number of observations that are based in fact. For example, the performance of Dell's stock vs. the Dow, the high pe of the stock, CPQ's/DEC's potential threat, etc. If I were "concerned" to a point where I felt Dell was a poor investment, I would be gone at the click of my mouse key.

Jim..

it must be a heavy burden you carry as the "voice of reason" in a sea of impatience.

Like it or not, some of us have six figure, time sensitive, investments in Dell currently. We are , rightfully so, a bit giddy.

Why not rail against the numerous post that contain trivial concerns having nothing at all to do with Dell?

Our personalities are reflected in our posts. So is yours.

Hi Jim,..Re:<< In fact if you have a better stock to invest in you defintely should invest in that stock.>>

Maybe those who are expecting a 4 to 5 point daily runup should consider the internet stocks? Good post Jim, I've also noticed the concern about Dell's stock price; however, when I compare it with CPQs, Dell is usually doing better, on a percentage basis. (CPQ is the only other PC stock on my data screen).

Otherwise, it seems we are having normal daily activity. The attached chart shows that during the Oct.'97 timeframe because of the Asian situation, a sideways trading action occurred. We are currently also experiencing fallout from Asia so given the overall market conditions, Dell is doing very well overall, and also compared with MSFT and CSCO and CPQ today.

Jim Kelly,

In an effort to gain your respect for my integrity, I offer the following From CIBC Oppenheimer Dated Aug 12, 1998

>Investment Conclusion
>In our June PC price survey, we noted that
>Dell avoided aggressive price reductions on
>the corporate desktop, while Compaq went on
>a pricing rampage to undercut Dell in
>corporate desktop PCs for the first time in
>memory. We concluded that Dell must either
>respond or eventually relinquish market
>share to Compaq in the corporate arena. On
>August 5, Dell cut prices on the OptiPlex
>desktop computer by up to 17%, yet we are
>finding Compaq remains substantially lower
>on sampled configurations.

While this came out today,
Notice the reference to the June report.
I believe that is where I read that CPQ is priced better than DELL.

So I will maintain my stance,
CPQ is gunning for DELL, at least it would appear that way,
Loss or not.

Jim
PS, I know, I told some of you that I was leaving for a while, But redemption is important.

Jim, I'll have to second that post. I'll probably catch flack for it, but I agree with you entirely.

It appears that there was some misconception about your last statement about getting out of DELL, and into better ideas. The way I read it, you meant that if DELL is such a bad stock in the eyes of the impatient, then perhaps they have a better idea?

I guess most people aren't going to be happy unless DELL is up 300% (annually) by the end of the year. I for one, and happy to be long since early 1996, and I intend to stay long for the foreseeable future.

Best Regards,

LoD

At this time there
seems to be no reduction in DELL's growth rate by any one of
those two metrics. In fact there may be an acceleration in those two
metrics.
Just looking at the earnings reports at the Dell website for this year and last year shows that this is completely false. Growth rate is declining and will continue to decline because of sheer size. Dell is a great company, but I don't understand why people can't recognize the basic fact that the stock price has already far outstripped actual growth rates. You can talk about how Dell is selling over the Internet, how it's containing costs, how much building Dell is doing, how much computer sales are increasing, but all that just adds up to the actual growth rate as stated in each of Dell's earnings report, and that growth rate is considerably less this year than last.
