Stitch,

If Conner's project is real, would he have any advantage against existing suppliers such as WDC? I am sure WDC has discussed low price drives with component suppliers and should have a large head start if the idea is feasible. They also have manufacturing capacity that will not require as much capital outlay.

Stitch,
"Though I am like you. In the long term I do not believe it is a viable strategy. But for now it is a horse race for a fast growing market segment and little else matters."
In a netshell, that is the problem with this sector, and, in a larger sense, that is the problem in Asia. And in both places, the sh-t is hitting the fan, and spraying all over. And people repeat endlessly that all Asia needs is a Japanese tax cut to spur spending and more investment. Right. What happens in a horse race when all of the horses, pumped with drugs for enhanced "performance", drop dead on the track?

Thinking about Conner: I think Marx said something like "Great events happen twice, the first time ends in tragedy, the second time they end in farce." If Seagate moves swiftly and efficiently enough, this will aptly describe the alleged Conner/CPQ venture. Of course, QNTM better watch out too, because whoever wins the sub-1000 race may have the wherewithal to attck Bigfoot's niche as well. The new Bigfoot better be not only faster and more capacious, but it better be cheaper to produce too.

Best,
Sam
