Peter, I was curious to see how the Directv internet access was working for you. I was thinking about getting it, but I read the usenet posts in deja-news and they were not very positive. The main problem is that if you use too much bandwith they "FAP" you. (Fair Access Policy- they slow your access down significantly and charge extra). I guess a class-action lawsuit was filed recently regarding this.
I am not sure how much they consider too much, but I gather it was around 40 meg per day. Maybe Ross or someone else could let us know how many megs of data the average "heavy" real-tick user consumes per day. Hopefully it will work out.

On an interesting side note, I came across another site which offers satellite access. internetsatsys.com I nearly died from over-excitement. They advertise unlimited time and bandwidth -up to 500+ kbs for $40 per month, INCLUDING ISP! So I dug around and found out they have don't actually have any customes yet. hmmmm. The representative for ISS who posts on rec.satellite.direcpc is practically illiterate. (way beyond the small spelling or grammatical errors you expect to see on usenet posts), and the Direcpc people are not considering them a significant threat "if for no other reason than they are based out of a Howard Johnson Express Motel". hmmmm. Oh well, it looks like I have to wait a while for fast, cheap access...

Allan
