Interesting happenings in the analyst world (from briefing):

That FY99 should now be the lowest out there (I think Cowen had .51)

Applied Materials Inc. (AMAT) 33 +7/8: Adams Harkness lowers estimates on maker of semiconductor wafer fabrication equipment as visibility is poor and there are no signs that a recovery is near; maintains "market perform" rating, but lowers FY98 EPS from $1.20 to $1.11 a share and FY99 from $0.72 to $0.13 a share.....

Gottfried,re"AMAT: NATNBK MONT.SEC reconfirms the recommendation as Strong Buy on 08/12/98".

The information I get on Zacks showed a Buy rating on 7/16/98.
do you know if Hodess went from a buy to a strong buy in the interim and when? Thanks

Marc

Gottfried and others, Does anyone know what the options are saying for Sept., Oct and Nov. This may give us some idea what the option traders are thinking especially since AMAT earnings have just come out. Or, maybe we have to wait after the Aug. 24.

Any info?

Thanks,

Paul V.

Gottfried, remember when Ensco was being pushed as EPS numbers were falling hard. Price went from 30 to 13. I have been mostly long AMAT since I cannot remember but after getting burned so badly with ENSCO, any time the industry fundamentals are deteriorating as quickly as semi equip, with no end in sight, I get out!!! I am no expert but I would tend to think that we will be able to buy AMAT at a much lower price by early 1999.
