Well, that kind of a slide would certainly be from right field.
But I do not believe it can be totally disregarded. A significant number
of events would all have to occur at the same time.

Which would primarily result from pressures on the US dollar as many
countries currencies are devalued and deflation pressures effect US companies.
So far Asia has been contained, but it may not last.

Lester Thurow has just written an excellant Opinion in the Boston Globe
on the prospects of deflation and it's effect on the economy.
It was in Tuesday's paper Aug 11.

Henry and Thread,

Here is an article posted on the Asian Forum by Worswick
It is a newsletter with thoughts on international currencies and
financial systems moving forward and the pressures to form a single
Asian currency.
Many may already have run across the piece

Again from the Asia Forum Thread
forbes.com

An article by Steven H. Hanke from 11/17/97 on pegging Asian currencies
and devaluation of currencies.

Clears up the difference between a **currency board** and a pegged currency.
Shows there is a big difference between Mexico's pegging, Indonessia's
pegging and Hong Kongs currency board structure...and that of Argentina's.
