Scott, Re: Memory and OS???

Memory(16MB is enough) is cheap and you may be able to
steal it from some existing machine.OS is 'preloaded'.
You may even be able to get a 'test' version of Office 97
:-)

I can buy 16meg of memory for $10. This is in the mobo price. Sorry I didn't mention it.
Even if you want to add it that brings cost up to $297. Add another 16 meg and that's $307.
Now the profit margin is down to 23%. Still not too bad on a $400 Item. Add an OS and you might be at 20%...still pretty good. Certainly not Joeys 3-5%.
OS...I don't know exactly how to price that with the package deals MSFT sells. They might be getting a great deal on Win 95 now that Win 98 is out.

Scott - Re: "Maybe even input devices would be cool too.
And warranty servicing must cost something."

How about shipping costs?

Boxes?

Testing expenses ?
