There has to be a CPA out there who has the answer.

Best Regards

Timbo,

Try posting your question to Colin, I think he deals with taxes. I am a CPA but only have worked in corporate finance/accounting in my career.

Art --hates taxes as much the next person --bo

Hello Timbo,

I'm not officially a CPA yet as I haven't worked for a year in a public accounting firm, but I just passed the test. I really do hate tax, but I think I can answer your question.

The 1996 tax would be equal to

84020.50 + .396(500,000 - 263750)

You don't subtract the 84020 out of the second part of the equation.

I hope I'm right!

See ya,

Grant

OT personal tax, I read Grant's reply and agree that that's the way the tax computation is worked through. I didn't check any of the math or the numbers used for 1996, but the METHOD Grant used is the way to go!!

With an income that high, and filing late, and apparently filing as a self-preparer, you might be an audit candidate... The Service might see a complicated return, and "figure" a self-preparer might be prone to make some mistakes, IMO.
.
You MIGHT want to consider doing the return, and then having someone (a CPA, EA or even H&R Block) look it over/redo it and sign off on it for you.
