Thanks Tim, Here is Gilder's opening paragraph of the CUBE part....

".....The date is December 27, 1997 and Titanic, the most expensive and soon to be the largest grossing movie of all time had opened eight days earlier in US theaters. On the bus between Singapore and Malaka, Malaysia we stop at a travelerss' restaurant. Along with exotic satay (amorphous meat on skewers) it offers a stall selling hundreds of video CDs, including-for a premuim price of about US$5-Titanic"... later he says......"C-Cube has pioneered single-chip-systems for real-time video encoding and compression and non-linear video editing on the commercial level, and claims most broadcasters use C-Cube technology, mostly from its wholly owned subsidiary Divicom."

For more you've got to order the excellent letter.

Go DIVI. This is the first time GG has mentioned you! When you have more cool stuff please get George back to see it. He has never done an in-depth look at digital video like he has
other topics like CDMA, JAVA, bandwidth,WDM. CUBE, GG should go much deeper into digital video. Get his attention by showing him the latest stuff!!!!

Digital Video Systems(Dr. Sun). It sure some time to sell off the VCD inventory. They don't expect a pick-up in demand for VCD until after the end of Sept. I expect a pick-up to begin the second week of Sept. The Chinese New Year(The Year of the Rabbit) falls on February 16th, this year. That's 19 days later than last year.........................

"We anticipated that the softness in the Chinese video CD player market would continue through the second quarter of fiscal 1999 as we've announced previously. We are exiting this portion of the business to focus our energies on higher-margin, cutting-edge technologies," said Edward M. Miller, DVS' President and CEO. "We are remaining focused on our single technology strategy with new product lines such as the DVD-ROM and related componentry to be released in the months ahead."

DVS expects that it will take until the third quarter of fiscal 1999 to sell off the remaining video CD inventory it has in China. To be fiscally prudent, the Company had already established reserves against its video CD player inventory in the fourth quarter of fiscal 1998. DVS has consolidated the financial results of its Panyu, China Joint Venture through June 30, 1998, although the Company has not yet resolved its outstanding legal issues with its former Joint Venture Partner.

"DVS is rapidly transforming itself into a one-stop DVD technology and product source
