SW,

The system comes with Win98 native. I copied the specs at the bottom of this post.

Part of my concern comes from a comment by ATI tech support:

"Typically the first display adapter which is initialized by PnP will be allocated a complete set of VGA and accelerator resources. If other display adapters exist in the system they will not be allocated VGA resources because this would cause a conflict, however, PnP resources (memory aperture, block I/O and IRQ)will be allocated. All evidence currently indicates that the display adapter with VGA resources will become the PRIMARY display."

When he says the PCI bus gets a COMPLETE SET OF VGA and ACCELERATOR RESOURCES but the AGP bus DOESN'T (?), I'm going...OK, what is the AGP losing from not getting a COMPLETE SET?

When you advise to "turn off one monitor", I'm a little confused. Doesn't the system think the desk space is (about) twice as long whether the monitors are on or off, i.e. you would have the left half or right half of anything maximized show up. Lets use QuakeII for example: full screen game, 3D. Won't it boot 1/2 a screen if one is off? And if it opens correctly, will PCI be running the show if one monitor is on while AGP runs it if the other one is used and does all the texture mapping stuff AGP and the wide channel of pii400 bus is supposed to do?

Great news on the easy install if everything else works.

The software question really comes back to the ease with which you can revert to a one monitor config. Also I was thinking of a generic type HydraVision product that gave you better control over the display features.

Thanks for all your help,

Alan

Use "i" enclosed by <> to start italicized text and "/i" enclosed by <> to end italicized text. Notice the use of the " / " symbol in the embedded hmtl to stop highlighting text. When using netscape navigator you can click on View|Page Source to view the embedded hmtl. Side question, can anybody recommend a short and easy book to use to decipher html?

SW,

Following up on our discussion, received the following from ATI tech support. As he notes, 3D accelerator properties on the secondary card are lost completely:

"On start up, the primary monitor is the only monitor display information until the display driver is loaded before the image appears on the secondary monitor.
Secondary monitor will only display 2D information and NO 3D accelerator functions exist in secondary adapter. No AGP presents when configuring AGP adapter in a multiple monitor configuration.

Since you are using mostly stock trading applications (2D), this should not greatly affect you."
