Bert McComas - how many Microprocessors has he designed?

How fast were they?

What memory architectures did he use?

I think Intel has designed a few Microprocessors in their time. A prudent person would assume that Intel knows what they are talking about.

As for Bert - what were the Microprocessors he designed, again?

The main benefit of Rambus, IMHO, is not performance but granularity. This becomes critical in the 256Mb generation and beyond. Intel may be premature in pushing Rambus, but better too soon then too late, eh?
