*LBP* pon, soldering is very high technology. Loral got into trouble over telling China how to solder - this being a USA state secret. As you can see, Motorola has fallen into big trouble and Iridium testing not going that well - probably due to feathery solder. Lead poisoning is a constant hazard; perhaps Motorola people have simply done too much soldering. You said: "And I thought that Motorola has the best brains in US". The best brains in the USA and the world are working for Qualcomm on cdmaOne and cdma2000, Eudora, ASICs and all that. Bill Clinton is to consider a bill, a legislative one, not a dollar or duck type, which will allow heaps more H-1B visas for aliens to work in the USA. The idea is to increase the numbers from 65,000 to 115,000 per year over the next four years. [See note 1] The unions don't like it and point to a 2.2% unemployment rate among USA engineers [according to the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers who have done way too much soldering]. Among the most capable electronic engineers, I suspect the unemployment rate is slightly less than 2%. Maybe more like 0.1% and they are actually on a snowboarding holiday rather than really unemployed. Of course Bill will approve the bill so $ill and Irwin can hire heaps more highly intelligent aliens [see note 2] and propel the USA ever further into the technological future. If Bill doesn't, then Qualcomm will just have to set up shop in China, India, Korea and New Zealand and increasingly abandon the USA as a protectionist anachronism. Leaving the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers to their soldering studies. The USA has done extremely well by providing a pretty good life for brainy people from around the world.
