Gary,
I don't know about $/gig but as HDs get larger the smaller ones get cheaper. I have a 7 gig HD in this computer and have barely a gig filled up. If a customer can be convinced that a small HD will be sufficient then it will sure help the $399 PC.
If performance terms, I agree with you, the cpu is more likely drop in price. Again the customer needs to be convinced that the trade off in Mhz is more than made up by the decrease in price.
