Re the dip in royalties. Could it be that the licensees just stopped paying in view of the mitsubishi decision?

Excellent piece, Gus Thanks.. Core competency in analogue to digital and back again could indeed be a central skill that will be worth something substantial for AXC. And they do seem to be trying to position themselves to take advantage of it. Always do wonder if an undiscovered nugget resides still in their patents.
Like everything else,as you know, audio standards for the digital age remain in a highly competitive flux. Samsung is experimenting with a 192kHz sampling rate. I sure cannot speak for Al ( nobody can -and Al sports no pony tail to the best of my knowledge), but I believe he likes the CD sound. And the CDs he has burned himself sound excellent to me. Personally I despised the sound of the first couple of CD generations. Great improvement since though. Tubes? ...LOL.....well a big pair of mono tube amps will heat your home in the coldest winter, and are beloved by many ( and if you move them around alot - no need to go to a gym) The most natural sounding system I personally ever heard was driven by tubes, but so many factors involved in that sound..... can just repeat that in that debate my impression is that the tube emperor at least has an ermine jockstrap and one silk sock for clothes. In that very high margin market, as has often been repeated here, the Ampex name DOES have a magic that , coupled with their competencies, could be converted to enough cash to have a marked effect on revenues. In my opinion.
Gus, I certainly agree that AXC is not actually a value play anymore - except in perhaps the cash per share versus immediate expenses category. And heaven knows it isn't a growth play yet. And indeed the future price of the stock will decouple from the market, riding as it will on the relative success or failure of their efforts rather than the economic climate. And the overwhelming evidence is in ....... that they are undertaking these new efforts to broaden their revenue and potential growth bases in the nick of time.
