Gary, I find Nettles' answers chilling, because they betray a greater concern with short-term palliatives than in long-term performance. I believe that a CEO should be seeking to chart the course that is best for shareholders in the long run. Instead, Nettles is justifying his attempt to make the September quarter look as good as possible at the expense of the July quarter. What he should have been doing is attemting to make the long-term value of the company as high as possible, which implies ignoring quarter-ending goals whish are important only insofar as short-sighted traders ares concerned.

My hope is that Birck will be able to provide a steadying influence of Nettles. At this point Nettles does not appear to be a thoughtful senior manager.
