Managed care is a can't win proposition. Government regulation from above driven by politics and emotion. Requirement to limit spending and government spending on medicare/medicaid not fully reimbursing for costs below. Once managed care got sufficient market share, they no longer had the advantage of getting the most healthy patients. Both the Democrats and Republicans will keep passing laws for additional health care that will make Nationalized health care inevitable. Since more and more costs will be shifted from government run programs (that claim to cut spending but just shift costs to private payors), the private sector costs will keep rising faster and more people will be uninsured.
