Current scenario overall: I think the consensus is that the bottom has been reached, absent total economic collapse in the east. Several commentators see orders picking up in early 1999 and profit reversal in mid 1999. At this point, it's just a question of how long to hold dead money without losing the jump on the up-cycle.

I'm not too impressed with the recent uptick, caused (IMHO) by the spot news on PII 266-300 shortage, and some firming of DRAM price. Intel may need a new fab, but DRAM is still a joke.

One specific note: Carl Johnson & crew have made, to me, a pretty compelling case for Photon. The FPD business needs additional capacity as it is a new technology which is now implementing and just about out of capacity. The industry is not part of the sector, as far as timing goes, and AOI should be solid in the coming year.
