I've heard this inane argument about not caring what people do in their private lives as long as they do a good job. Nonsense. How would you like your plumber (who does an excellent job) to be in private a woman-hater, a racist, a feminest-hater? What if your very competent ob/gyn was banging your husband? What if your dentist liked little boys? People who lie and cheat (as your man did) cannot be trusted in any area of life. They broke a trust and only groupies and dupes keep letting it happen to them.

>>That's because we understand that this investigation hinges on an issue that is one of those anomalies of the law, where it is "illegal" to do what most people would do - lie on television regarding an affair...<<

No, apparently "we" understand very little.....that little "anamoly" as you put it is the bedrock of our judicial system. Would most people lie about such an issue? Probably. That' s why we have legal remedies in the form of penalties for those who take that risk. Mr. Clinton is finally getting his lesson in Civics 101 in a very real sense today. If he lies he will be impeached, no question. If he tells the whole truth he labels himself a perjurer. He has thoroughly boxed himself in with his previous statements (which, btw, reflect imo a total disregard for the law) so his only escape will be a political one, one which he will squander if he follows what is reported to be Hillary's most recent advice.

<<where it is "illegal" to do what most people would do - lie on television regarding an affair which is completely irrelevant with regards to Clinton's performance as a president>>

Most people lie on television? Really? Gee, the best I get is to be on my VCR.

Clinton is a serial sexual harrasser. Yet he curries favor with women's groups.

So if he was in favor of affirmative action in his public policy, but wore a KKK hood at night in his private time, would that be OK with you too?

The issue with sex between manager and subordinate in the office is not only restricted to how it affects the two principals' job performance but the job performance of the other employees in the office. Job performance pertains the performance of their duties, their expectation of fair treatment and evaluation on the job, the cooperation among persons in the office, and so on. All of these may be detrimentally affected by such behavior as Clinton-Lewinsky. And this is not restricted to military. Such rules and regulations are found in government worksites and in the private firms. One need only go back to the case of William Agee, who was CEO of Bendix, and his affair with his protoge', whose name escapes me. This caused quite a stir and out they went. Agee also may have been married at the time. At least, they didn't do it in the office building insofar as I recall.

The problem with his lie in the deposition is that at that time no one knew that the court case would be dismissed. When one is under oath, one is liable for purjury regardless of the outcome of the court case. There was a congressman prosecuted for such a purjury incident.
