Optivision/C-Cube, MPEG-1 encoders in EDNET..................

"Optivision is proud to be part of a technology solution that creates these virtual classrooms and expands educational opportunities for all students, regardless of geographic location," said Mike Galli, director of Marketing for Optivision. "The flexibility and high reliability of digital video makes it a great enabler for EDNET and distance learning applications."

Each end site is connected via a T-1 circuit on which classroom video is compressed into an MPEG compliant bit stream using Optivision's MPEG-1 LiveSystem(TM) transceiver station. The signal is then transmitted to switching hubs where the MPEG stream is decompressed and distributed to other sites involved in the event. Additional equipment required to facilitate interaction between the learning sites includes cameras, microphones and TV monitors. Optivision technology enables an extremely low-latency transmission of 250 milliseconds between distribution points, facilitating high-resolution, full motion image transmission between teachers and students.
