I agree with your vision of the coming revolution - it's incredible to me that so many are expecting a retail middleman to not only survive, but dominate in the coming decades. Analysts and popular economists are clinging to the old paradigms in deep denial, expecting riches to be reaped from both old inefficiencies and new ones that they dream up ("everyone will buy everything from the amazon site because they will be too lazy/loyal/dense to try anything else, and no other companies will bother to reap this easy money because amazon will own all the shopbots, and consumers won't notice this or won't care, etc."). The true implications of the increased efficiencies of the internet seem to be too scary to contemplate. The revolution will destroy as much as it creates: I foresee lots of layoffs and industry upheavals on the way. The internet is a tidal wave - amazon is a leaf being pushed along by it at this point. e.b.
