Christine,

Sorry to be contentious, but...

<<not only did Clinton prey on vulnerable young women who worked for him>>

I don't buy it. I expect she loved every second of it, and did everything in her power to encourage it. Just as many men become total asses around beautiful women, many women become total asses around powerful men. I don't think anyone was taken advantage of.

<< he is a lying, conniving scumbag.>>

The last President we had who wasn't was Carter, an ineffectual twit. Before that, how far back would you have to go... Unpleasant to think that those are the choices, but I've always said that scum rises to the top, and the winner of a rat race is usually a rat.

<<Since the Gary Hart debacle American politicians know that press pursues their private lives.>>

This went way beyond the press, and if it was only the press involved it would never have emerged. The rival party, unable to engage on the grounds of foreign policy or the domestic economy, dug in the only fertile ground they could find. One wonders how many Republican private lives could withstand the same scrutiny.

I worry that if we insist on having a President who has never done anything wrong, we may end up electing people who have never done anything at all but look convincing on camera. On second thought, we've already tried that.

What next?

Steve
