Tony,

I would say it will take about 3-5 years for Firewire to step in and
replace IDE/SCSI. Firewire should be almost as cheap as IDE but
faster than SCSI when it reaches "critcal volume".

However, with Intel intent on delaying it (anyone see a not
invented here scenario popping up?) and adaptec really wanting
SCSI to stick around forever it may be closer to the 5 years than
the 3. I mean it took 3 years for USB to be widely accepted and it's
only happening now.

The advantage that Firewire has over USB in terms of the speed of
adoption of the techology is that it is an IEEE standard and is
therefore widely available and well documented.
