PC-DOS at that time was what Microsoft wrote for IBM. I think it was only later that they marketed it under their own label as MS-DOS. Remember, there were no "IBM compatibles" until IBM came out with the PC!

JMHO.

downsouth,

By MS-DOS I mean both PC-DOS and MS-DOS. What I meant was IBM had already designed its hardware before MS wrote the OS for it. MS was not a consideration in choosing the 8088 over other processors. The 8088 was chosen because it did not threaten IBM's minicomputer products in performance. I do not know if Intel's RMX86 was around when IBM went with DOS but if it was then we all lost out; we could have had a realtime multi-tasking OS to start with.

Cheers,

Norm
