As I recall, Slicky, it wasn't guns that killed those gyrenes. It was a truck bomb set off by scumbag terrorists. If you want to follow some convoluted logic to blame President Reagan for that, you'd better find a new path to follow. If you'll bother to do a bit of research, you'll find that the marines were sent into Beirut at (Demo) Congressional insistence. They had been stationed offshore, aboard ship, for something like 4 months (not sure exactly -- a long time, anyway), and were more than willing to go ashore.

Now, how do you relate the Iran-Contra mess to that? Let's see now, hmmmm. Maybe the Ayatola called Reagan, and said, "Ronnie, put those Marines ashore, or we won't buy your overpriced and outdated weaponry." Yup, that's how it must have happened.

Truth of the matter is that the Marine Expeditionary Force was sent to the Eastern Med at congressional insistence, and the troops were put ashore at congressional insistence. Now, if you want to blame Reagan for the truck bomb, you're going to have to really stretch some logic.

over.
