Thanks, Art, for bringing that discussion back on-topic in your own winning fashion. A couple of news items: According to the Federal News Service, August 6, 1998, an FAA official testified before the House Science Committee, Technology Subcommittee, that the FAA is concerned about the potential for hacker disruption of its computer systems, and is looking at fixes, including firewalls and biometrics. (I also seem to recall military concerns on this topic as well.) In the Philippines, Polaroid/Morpho has suffered a setback in trying to land a $37 million social security card biometric ID project, when the Philippines Supreme Court ruled that the deal couldn't be done by the President's order, but would require legislation. There have also been political objections raised -- privacy, of course -- to this AFIS-based system. Probably, Morpho was planning on using the Arizona/Texas hardware for the deal. This comes from Businesswire (Phillipines), but I don't have my notes on which day. I've been too busy to post much, but I'm still here.
