more interesting info of things that are happening with online brokerages .. thanks to someone who sent me this..

------
Here is an interesting article.

A WSJ.com article (Sub. req'd) reports, "As
banks clamor to get into the brokerage
business, some upstart Internet brokerage
firms are moving into banking." The race to be
the one-stop-financial gateway is on. Now
users can compare home mortgage rates and
apply for loans online at E*Trade. Charles
Schwab now lets users write online checks,
and its reportedly testing high-end online
checking accounts. The reports that Schwab
Co-CEO, David S. Pottruck, claims, "We have
no plans to do car loans, credit cards,
mortgages or the like." But other online
brokerages do. Clearly, major online brokers
have established relationships with hundreds of
thousands of investors, and see no reason to
limit their product lines. Many plan to sell bank
products and offer consolidated, electronic
account statements.
