Huh? Ollie didn't discourage terrorist acts; he in fact encouraged them. Do I need to say it more slowly: Arms for Hostages. Ollie was giving Iranian revolutionaries ARMS for the release of HOSTAGES, all the while funneling those deals through middlemen in Nicaragua (another country with a stellar record on human rights). See? Tell me how that prevents terrorism.

As for the rest, you're still trying to use your sympathies for Ollie to justify something ILLEGAL that he did. Yeah, I can think of thousands and thousands of things to do with 20000 dollars and with the rest of government excess. But are you saying we should then give it away to Ollie North? Talk about a welfare queen.

Ollie North had his conviction overturned on appeal. He was guilty of misappropriating funds. The democratic Congress in their zeal to get Reagan granted him immunity. His conviction was overturned based on this fact. Although he was convicted it was a false conviction and he is not a felon. This is similar to what happened with Hubbell. He was probably guilty of tax evasion but his indictment was thrown out because it violated his immunity agreement.I believe that Ollie was a patriot and I will always respect him for not ratting out the higher ups who left him to twist in the wind. Loyalty counts for a lot in my book. He could have saved his ass by giving them what they wanted. Read his book.
