Don:

Not negative really. This business is full of delays. Also, new tech will always have bugs to work out. I would rather they do things right than speed it up for the sake of the share price. Wall Street is a different story. They may be getting tired of delays, cryptic financial reports, etc. I am sure that there are analysts out there who would love to downgrade Loral on its own merits, but you can't because of G*. One can't really be negative near term because the price will be totally dependent on 12 sats being launched successfully for G* and then Telstar 6 going up on October 8. This should be followed quickly by 12 more G* birds. So, you see that things may look completely different in 55 days. Go out 120 days and you throw in 12 more G* sats and SatMex5. A close eye will be kept on Iridium as well. I am confident that G* will begin commercial service by June 99.
If you go out 1 or 2 years, the scene is completely different. In 2 years, G* will be going full tilt, Skynet will have 6 sats, SatMex 3, Orion 3, Europe*Star may have 1, acquisitions will have been made, C* will be going into PhaseII/III, Skybridge will start launching(multiple sat launches? NOT AGAIN!), etc.

So, all in all, the story remains the same. The bottom line is that investors will be a bit negative until Loral related satellites start leaving the atmosphere!

Don, I think Valueman has the caught the same "patience" bug that Readware, myself and others have. There is a little debate taking place on the Fool about this, and the lack of execution of the biz plan is the cause for the tension. On a side note, I plan to include some of these messages in sunday's update of the LOR FAQ, and address the issue of "patience".

We all have faith, but this stock has been running without gas in the engine for a while. With this Q's earnings piled on to a G* launch that seems to keep sliding further back, it is no wonder why this stock, and G* have been hammered as of late.

I have cancelled my pending GTC orders on LOR and G*, and will either place new ones even lower, or will not place new ones at all. At least, not until I see a launch date set in stone, and some encouraging comments from LOR management.

Long on LOR,

geoff

speculation on what's driving down LOR and GSTRF these past two days
Maybe some general market conditions like double-witching tomorrow?
Or how about U.S. strikes in Afghanistan and Sudan today?
