Hal, Lots of truth in what you say, also lots of Apple holy writ coming through. Please Don't Forget: * iMac runs the Mac OS -Clone Boxes do not. >Good OS Also: * iMac runs Windows as an option -Clone Boxes do not.>Bad, Runs it slowly * iMac runs Motorola G3 PowerPC Chip -Clone Boxes do not.> Neutral, so what * iMac claims to be Fast -Clone Boxes do not.> Clones are fast too, Do not forget, there are no more clones. IBM copies now. It is a Wintel continuum * iMac includes built in Monitor -Clone Boxes do not.> Big minus, no way to change the video/monitor A cheapness option * iMac has ATI Rage Pro on Motherboard -Clone Boxes do not. With clones you choose your video, far greater choice than 1 * iMac provides pleasant User Experience -Clone Boxes do not. Get with it, both are pleasant to see and use * iMac works as a Powerful Toy -Clone Boxes do not. I see you can never do serious work on an iMac? * iMac competes for Macintosh Users -Clone Boxes do not. WIntels have just about competed all the Mac users away from Apple * iMac provides "The computer for the rest of us." -Clone Boxes do not. No way on earth will Apple capture the 45% that have no computers now As to making inroads into market share, if Mac users buy more Mac computers, then there will be an increase in Mac market share. (Do the math.) Since the PCs grow at 30% per annum if Apple grows at 30% it will maintain share and not grow it. Remember, the target moves as in shooting skeet. Substance, value, and style will maintain an alternative minority presence in the marketplace for Macintosh in a world otherwise fixated on computing orthodoxy. Substance, value and style nearly drove the beige battalions to total obscurity. I see more variety in Wintel boxes, in monitors, programs, accessories than in Apple 12,000 programs???? How many will the imac run?, what about the lost brigades from the Apple II, and the Macs whose machines are dodoes. At least modern wintels will run the older programs. Old wintels are lost for new programs, like Apples are as well. Bill
