Helen is definitely a source of joy. She is now starting in on consonants. "lalalaaala" and "babaababa" are favorites, along with some hard-to-spell grunts and hybrid vocalizations. Myyear-old niece's first word was "doggy", doubly remarkable because the critter is the grandparents'. She is prone to saying "Hi Daddy", which of course liquefies my brother-in-law.
Helen, when she sees me in the morning or just after work, lights up and gives me a baby hug about the arm or head. She loves to sit on my sternum when I'm lying down - that way her feet are on the ground. It's a very positive way to do a diaper check.
