Travis, I think you probably should sell all your AAPL and move
ahead to what you believe the best for you. Did Jobs ever give you
any disappointing quarter results since he steped in as an interim
CEO? If not, then why you worry? He wouldn't tell you in details
about his decisions on marketing, products, revenue/net, strategic
planning, etc. There are two ways: if you think the excellent net
trend will continue, then hold it; otherwise, just simply drop the
ball and come back to check if you get a better decision.

"Why does everyone keep saying stuff like this?"

Travis, notice if you will, that the quotation from me to which you refer is talking about Q1--NOT Q4. I know full well that there are currently production limitations for both desktops and Powerbooks. I also mentioned this fact in another post of mine.

And please, do not group me in with your term "AAPL cheerleaders." I posted a message WEEKS ago arguing that it was the Powerbook shipments this quarter that would make the difference between a good and a bad Q4.

The problem DOES concern me. However, my concerns about Powerbook shipments this quarter have been somewhat negated by iMac shipments that sound like they might be much higher than first anticipated.

>Why does everyone keep saying stuff like this? Am I the only one reading report after report that PB's are just NOT shipping and desktop sales aren't moving briskly either?<

I believe mid-high end PBs will be in better supply by month end. Certainly soon enough to impact quarterly earnings.

IMO, desktops are moving as well, if not better, than before the iMac debut. Tekserve's getting good supply of the newer models. Of interest is a 300mhz desktop with built in DVD (instead of Zip) for $2,000 .

604e desktops are a fond memory, as are non-PPC Powerbooks -- except for the 2400c.

Am moving a fair number of iMacs to Parents sending kids off to college; long-time MacUsers upgrading 5+ year old machines; and first-time buyers. They basically come in already wanting one. For newbies, floppy, printer and peripheral situation are problems they can live with until they come up to speed. Easy money.

Funny. About a year ago this time, almost every serious sale included a discussion about Apple's survival as a corporate entity. Now, I can't remember having that conversation in months.
