Finally caught up on the posts, wow. Lots of good answers to legit questions. I posted the positive IDC comments in my last post.

Here's another about the fabulous sales to Wintel-users and first time buyers:

A kid's perspectives on the iMac (anecdotal):

And what I'm most interested in at the moment, iMac from a teacher's perspective (anecdotal):

Seems to me that the consumer backlog is going to free up soon. The question now is whether there is a backlog for college students buying at a discount from their university, and a backlog in delivery to schools around the country? Not good to make them wait until October ... Anybody out there have some news about iMac delivery dates to education? Like, "my school ordered x units in July and we've been told we'll get them on x date?"

Marc,

Thanks.

As for whether Apple needs another iMac, I say iYes. What killed Apple was that it stopped innovating. If they start to just churn out same-old again, after iMac, Apple will die again. It's very important to maintain the excitement. I personally would like to see a high end Mac with more SLOTS (dammit!) that is innovative. My G3/300 does make my pulse run fast, now that it's working (ahem) but I'd like to see myself breathless, too, the way I am about the iMac.

I know I'm asking for a lot, and I don't think Apple has to do it every single new machine, but alternating the four categories for that special attention, and giving us one really creative piece of hardware hit a year, would do it.
