The problem is most people are getting used to Win95/98, and few people like to
learn new OS. Besides, all my files are in Winword, Excel, powerpoint, and it is
very hard to convert. Besides, how can I communicate with people who run on Linux if I am on WIndow ? and most people are now on Window, it will make people less willing to switch to Linux, because it will make you more difficult to
exchnge data with most of the PC users. With the price already so low, $85 per
copy, it is very hard to persuade people to switch to different OS with so many inconvenience.

If I am to buy a new PC, win98 will be the first choice for OS, because I
know that
1) Win98 will run most of the application programs in the market, and it
is most likely to be supported by all the third party program developers in the years to come.

2) It will make me easier to exchange data with other PC users, because I know
most of the PCs in the market are running with window.

This makes MSFT continue to have the natural monopoly of the OS market
in the years to come, and it benefit all the PC users with a unified standard.
So, who to blame for MSFT's natural monopoly ? THE CONSUMERS.

As to the Linux, it really does not matter who support i, be it IBM, HWP, or SUNW...etct . What matters the most is
if the consumers will support it .

If Linux will be a threat, it will threat those high end market with hardwares running on UNIX. Again the problem is who will like to switch with the unix is just running well ?
