If the Federal government can find ways in which to assist and guide people in ways in which to have a happier, healthy life with those we live with and work with, I think the authority is there to assist and encourage, as long as the ways aren't oppressive and unreasonable. It's all a matter of degrees as to how much is expedient.

Well said.

<<The Declaration of Independence mentions "Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness".>>

Once again I refer you to the Federalist Papers - the pursuit of happiness is defined as the right to own and make use of property, a right that the common man was explicitly denied under the monarchy. The other two are pretty self-explanatory. You may think the pursuit of happiness has a different meaning, but that's what the Founders meant by it.
