Hi Hardline, Nice to have you joining our group and contest...I'll have to go back through some on the post to develope a list of acronyms that we use...

Ask away at any questions you may have and you'll find many that will give you a read and further input...

Hardline,

We would love to have some good 'ole FA here. I think you will find that TA especially P&F is not bunk. I am happy to take up the challenge of convincing you! Actually, I will do nothing of the sort, P&F speaks for itself. TA in itself without FA is not reliable. Nor is it reliable the other way around. FA tells you what, TA tells you when. Although you will find we have those on the thread that just play with the TA for trades etc.
The last portfolio contest went quite well. You can see the results at jsinclair.interspeed.net

As you read through the book and this thread please ask any questions (large or small) we love to help around here. Tom Dorsey has recommended this thread on radio as a way to learn P&F! Tom posts here as well under a pseudonym "james ball".

Now for acronyms:
(not always used and we are creating more daily I find)
RS - relative strength
BSL - Bullish support line
brl - Bearish resistance line
TT- triple top
DB - double bottom
DT - double top
HP - high Pole
HPT - high Pole Top
BG, Big Guy, El Supremo, Numero Uno etc, TT - Tom Dorsey
TDT - This is a Tom Dietz Thing. One of our more colorful members. His trades are legendary and can only be described as an aggressive trader on crack. Although lately he has been a shining star and charting brilliantly. You will see this reference often.

This should get you started. Welcome from us all!

Jan I am

P.S. You will also see an occasional "grub". This has absolutely nothing to do with P&F. It is a sport centered around grubbing significant post numbers (like 6000). We like to have fun too!

HL,
So sorry. Here are a few more acronyms that are important to P&F.

NYSEBP - New York Stock Exchange Bullish Percent
OPTI (BP)- Optional Bullish percent
OTC (BP)- Over the counter bullish percent
10week - Percent of stocks above their 10 Week moving average
30week - Percent of stocks above their 30 Week moving average
HiLo - High Low Index

When we say "the indicators" we are referring to the above.

By the way. Are you signed up on DWA?

Terms we use for DWA subscribers..
Cheap Seats - Individual subscriptions with pared down amenities
Box Seats - Brokers subscription with all the P&F fixins you could want.
(this we made up on the thread. DWA had nothing to do with it although they think it is very funny)

I'm sure I'll come up with more later.

Jan I am
