<<the fact that MSFT is bringing this issue to light has me scared... When has microsoft ever gone out of their way to admit that competition is going to be benefiting from their misfortunes???>>

Paul you have the corporate memory here. Are you just being facetious (sarcastic) and this MSFT warning is nothing more than reverse psychology FUD tactics? Or is there a true sense of "impact on NT5.0" that MSFT feels obligated to point out to the analysts?

<<but more importantly was Apple. Apparently the market loves these turn arounds :)>>

I agree, if they continue to do the right things, these turnarounds will eventually be rewarded, in a correcting market no less.

<<There HAS to be an upgrade coming from this but the question is who and when... >>

Good question, hard to answer. But Morgan Stanley-Dean Witter may be considering an upgrade soon. I think going into September there will be some action. If not then, by November-December we could see our share of upgrades if things with Novell go according to plan.

<<What happened to all the staunch supporters here? Last year there was a new message on this thread every 5 minutes.>>

Don't know about here on SI. The freebees yahoo NOVL thread put in 150+ messages in 24 hrs, not a bad clip, but the quality is mixed. I would suspect that we'll see newer additions here over the upcoming months. It is August though, and many are taking a summer break.

Regards,

QuadK

Really good question. Why not just state that sales of Windows NT 5.0 will suffer due to the perpetual delay in shipping it? That would be more accurate, so why give the nod to Novell? This has to impact Novell's stock price in a positive way, so why do it?

Now I have to wonder: is this greasing the skids for something else? Will this make negotiations to license NDS on NT go a little smoother? Or is there hope that if Novell gets cocky maybe they could slip and let Microsoft steal the family jewels with some Standard Microsoft Business Practice licensing loophole? Inquiring minds want to know.

Citrix last year just barely avoided being crushed and swept away with this kind of licensing deal. I hope Dr. Eric took notes and that he can prevent Novell from becoming another Spyglass story.

Paul, I put Novell's current turnaround status at 6-12 months behind Apple's current status. FWIW.

Btw, half of the stocks in my portfolio were up on Friday. AAPL and NOVL, of course!

Still lost money on the day though,
Marc
