California Students just a few months ago placed last or next-to-last on an international standardized test of math/science. The test was administered in industrialized countries. Then there is the "Johnny can't read or write" syndrome, helped along by idiotic things like "whole-word" reading teaching method, "creative spelling" where teachers simply throw up their hands and decide that it might hurt kids feelings to try to teach them how to spell properly, so they simply don't teach anymore. And "free access to national parks"? What have you been smoking? You obviously have never visited a National Park anytime in the last twenty years. Fees are only going up, and they're certainly not going away.
