I dropped by the local CompUSA today to check out their inventory and ended up spending a couple hours volunteering for the Apple Demo day.

I got more info from one of CompUSA's inventory guy. He said that they got 50-60 iMac in last Saturday which was more than the 40 units reported earlier. All of them were sold by around 1:30 pm last Saturday.

He said that they've been getting about 4-5 of them every other day and as of Fri have received a total of about 16 additional units after the Sat launch. There is still a heavy backorder for iMacs. Three customers wanted to buy an iMac on the spot today but unfortunately we didn't have any in stock. There were four boxes of iMacs sitting in the corner but each had a piece of paper with a customer's name on it. Apparently they are already sold to people on the waiting list.

It looks like some CompUSA is still not getting high volume of iMacs. According to a couple reports, Apple might have been funneling iMacs to the educational channels last week and will then rotate back to focus on the retail channels.

Another thing I noticed today was that the PowerMac G3 desktop and mini-tower inventory at this particular CompUSA has dropped significantly. A couple months ago this CompUSA used to have 12 or more G3 DT/MTs stored under the display shelves at any given time with a few more units in stored in the back. Today I saw just 3. I've heard from a major reseller 2 weeks ago that the Pro line is selling better than expected this Q. I think Soup also mentioned something along that line last week. So it does seem that these reports all seem to indicate that the Pro line sales is quite strong this quarter.
