Dear Tom,

I will try to make this brief, but let me say this; there are many brilliant people on both sides of this issue and many others who can't even fathom how either side even sees a relationship between the two. Until whatever happens or doesn't happen, none of us can claim to have "the truth".

One could go into great detail about the relationship between the anticipation of the year 2000 and the year 1000 (millennial expectation -- on the part of many religions, by the way); about the perceived lack of concern, as de Jaeger refers to the Europeans as "looking over the abyss and admiring the view" -- others discount this interpretation altogether; about the "simplicity" or the "complexity" of the problem (depending on whose school colors you bear); etc., etc., etc.

I originally became interested in the Y2K "problem" from a mere investing point of view. But, the Wall Street crowd disagreed (at least temporarily) with where I put my money. I watched my "sure bet" go to pot, and finally became convinced that by the time Wall Street was convinced there was a problem, it would be too late to turn Y2K into an investment. But that's another long story.

When I began to see the Biblical significance (in my mind, that is), the entire prospect became both frightening and humorous. Frightening if the perceived connection did exist and the "worse" scenarios played out. Humorous, in that it would be ironic if God chose this way to confound "brilliant" mankind once again (ie -- Babel). Man invents the computer with the desired goal to "be like a god". Super-intelligence controlled by man. But, oh, he forgot one little detail about 2 digits, and this would be the thing that ended this lifelong quest to "be a god".

I think the one thing to watch for is a peace treaty with Israel. If we see this in 1998, then it strengthens my "end-times" beliefs. I certainly hope for a pre-tribulation "rapture", but never count on anything that requires even a small amount of "interpretation" of Scripture.

The next few months could be interesting for those students of prophecy. Or it could just be another victorious chapter for the "the apostles thought the 2nd Coming was in their lifetimes also" very vocal, insecure, frightened, or in my opinion, deceived crowd.

I think God is very logical and ordered. That is why I "see" the relationships developing all around us since Israel became a nation. Interesting times lie ahead for those that know "the Way, the Truth, and the Light". Frightening in the short-term, but keep your eyes on the goal. For those that are lost, the scary will only get worse.

I remain,

SOROS

ps I see the IRS wants everyone to have the option of paying their taxes on credit cards -- interesting.

Security forces on alert for possible attacks on Temple Mount

By AMY KLEIN and news agencies - Jerusalem Post

Security forces are preparing for possible right-wing attacks on the Temple Mount, senior officials said Sunday.

Jerusalem police have recently conducted exercises based on various scenarios of possible attacks, drawn up from intelligence reports, police officials said. One of the scripts involved a car coming from Hebron to carry out a car bombing, in revenge for a murder of a Jewish resident.

Defense Minister Yitzhak Mordechai alluded to steps taken and "successful things" that had already been done to thwart attacks on the Temple Mount.

Speaking to Army Radio, Mordechai said: "We are approaching 2000. In 2000, all kinds of extremists - Christian, Moslem, and Jewish - could suddenly get 'divinely inspired' and do serious things... "Any
such action could spark a huge fire. Therefore, we are obligated to make every effort to prevent any extremist from getting to such a point. I know that steps are being taken and I know of successful
things that have been done." He would not elaborate.

The General Security Service has increased its protection of Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, following threats by right-wing extremists. Netanyahu has reportedly begun wearing a bullet-proof
vest in public and has limited his public appearances in accordance with GSS instructions.

Netanyahu's bureau chief, Uri Elitzur, said the premier had held a series of meetings on the matter with security officials and is taking the threats against his life seriously. Elitzur said Netanyahu had
received what he described as abusive letters from both right- and left-wing extremists which included "threats of murder."

Security was also increased around Mordechai and President Ezer Weizman, security sources said. Mordechai, however, said in the Army Radio interview that he is not changing his routine, and had not taken to wearing a bullet-proof vest. "I have a rule," he said. "I will only wear flak jackets in places where soldiers where them. In other places, I will behave like any Israeli civilian."

The Temple Mount was opened to tourists Sunday for the first time since last Wednesday, when police clashed with Wakf officials inside the compound. Police denied the Wakf officials' claims that they acted violently when they entered the site to arrest a fleeing Arab. Jerusalem police chief Cmdr. Yair Yitzhaki said tensions have decreased at the site. "I hope that the wisdom of the Wakf officials
and the Palestinian leadership won't turn the site into a center for confrontations," he said.

Police have not decided to increase security on the Temple Mount, though the director of the Wakf announced he plans to strengthen Wakf presence there. Police and the GSS are investigating
whether right-wing activists were involved in placing a firebomb near one of the Temple Mount gates two weeks ago. It caused damage to one of the doors.

Jerusalem police opened an investigation of right-wing activists Itamar Ben-Gvir and Noam Federman on suspicion they insulted and incited against a public official, following their statements
about Mordechai last week.

Federman and Ben-Gvir were among the small group that had demonstrated outside Mordechai's house in Motza to protest the murder of Rabbi Shlomo Ra'anan in Tel Rumeida in Hebron. During the demonstration, witnesses testified, the activists called Mordechai a murderer, and Mordechai said that they told him to bring his son outside so he could see "his father the murderer." Ben-Gvir said he didn't call Mordechai a murderer ,but added that Mordechai is responsible for Ra'anan's
murder and carries the responsibility of the security in Hebron. "I don't remember the left-wing activists who demonstrated against Netanyahu calling him a murderer being investigated," he said.

Margot Dudkevitch adds: In an interview Sunday, Ehud Sprinzak, professor of political science at the Hebrew University and author of The Ascendance of Israel's Radical Right, said that reports of the
establishment of a Jewish underground appear to be grossly exaggerated. "This is just a slogan," he said. "With a very small exception, most of the suspects are known to security forces and carry out their operations publicly."

The recent threats reported in the media, he said, should be divided into two categories. Reports of threats to kill high-ranking government officials such as Netanyahu or Mordechai, are greatly
exaggerated, he said, adding that there is a greater sensitivity to this since the assassination of Yitzhak Rabin. While the GSS should take all precautions, he added, the chances of such attacks
are very low. "I don't identify anything close to the atmosphere that prevailed before Rabin was assassinated," he said. "The frenzy that encompassed the period is missing."

One should also take into account that a right-wing government is currently in power, he added. But reports that right-wing vigilantes plan to attack Palestinians in the territories should be treated more
seriously, he said, especially when terrorist attacks are committed and settlers lives are lost. Then there is a general feeling that the security forces are not doing enough to safeguard them, leading to
talk of revenge against the Palestinians. Reports of plans to attack the Temple Mount or other holy shrines are not new, and the perpetrators of such plans are clearly trying to stop the peace process. "These places are usually heavily guarded, but security can always be boosted," he said. (c) 1998 The Jerusalem Post

Some of you may have seen this, but it is worth reading again:

November 14, 1997 From Prisoner 354-B9

To My American cousins in Christ,

It's frigidly cold here this morning. My cell is unheated and I cannot feel my legs. This is a blessing. Today I will be beaten and tortured before breakfast and I will not feel the pain as much. Numbness from the cold makes the tortures bearable. I will have to remember to scream on que so as not to upset the guards. I wonder if they are as bored with my cries as I am with their beatings? In prison, everything
becomes routine, even torture.

I prayed for you again. I have much time on my hands here and thankfully no blood. I once heard a rumor that the churches in America each had a complete Bible of their very own. Could such a thing be true? Once at a house church meeting, just before my last arrest - how many years has it been? - I actually held a page of Scripture in my own hands and was allowed to read it to the church. I myself was holding the Word of God. I knew then that I was favored of the Lord.
Such a great honor.

In my dream today I went to Heaven again and one of the Splendid Ones spoke with me about you. He showed me the great Russian bear - not at all dead as you have supposed - hibernating, rejuvenating, readying to attack you. Her sharp paws were unsheathed ready to slice and maul you into submission.

"Why do they disarm? " I asked.

The Splendid One replied, "They are at ease in Zion but soon will be at ease no more."

"I do not understand," I replied a bit confused.

"Many saints of the West have become wealthy and do not know that they are really wretched and poor and miserable and blind and naked. They usually equate the blessing of God with having money. They do not know of His true riches," said the glorious being.

Then Jesus Himself entered the place where we were talking. All bowed low and worshipped but I wept bitterly. Though He knew the answer, he asked me why I wept so. "Lord," I said, "Your sufferings only lasted a few days and mine have gone on for years. I have suffered much more than you. Why?"

With a great compassion, He seemed to look right through me (I felt him do this). He said, "Son, I have allowed you to sip suffering in small swallows so that your faith would not fail. I swallowed the dregs of the poison of sin whole. It was a torture you could never understand and it would have undone you. You have drank of my cup. Be patient a while longer."

I begged his forgiveness. His hand raised only to wipe my tears away and he held me close in understanding. I breathed in the perfume of His grace which seemed to fill me with new Life.

I awoke.

My dear cousins, you are not prepared for the sufferings to come. Lose this world now and let its claims on you fall away. If you gain Christ you will lose nothing important.

Not long ago I saw my reflection for the first time in years from a medicine chest in the infirmary. My teeth have rotted and I look decayed. My once handsome face is etched with pain. I look like a corpse straining to draw breath. The doctor gave me hot water to drink for my illness - we have no medicines here. It helped a little.

I felt so sad for myself and was glad my mother was dead. My condition would have killed her. As I headed back to my cell, the Holy Spirit said, "Don't despair. I will show you as you look to me."

I suddenly saw my image reflected in the ice. The bumps of the icicles took the lines away and I looked young and alive again. The best part was the snow. It gave the impression that I was dressed in a white robe of righteousness like the saints in heaven wear. It was delightful!

My smiles shock the guards. I can only explain that He is with me.

Dear American cousins, we are praying for you so that when night crashes on your land, and it soon will, your faith will not fail. Put the Cross back in your Gospel preaching and prepare your people to carry it or they will fall away.

It is very cold here. I am praying for a blanket or some rags to keep warm with.

He is with me.

Signed,

A nameless prisoner
His ambassador in chains

Before reading this, note the emphasis on "SECURITY" for Israel being the one condition for a PEACE TREATY. The Bible is clear that Israel will be TOTALLY CONFIDENT that they have TOTAL SECURITY when they sign the final 7-year peace treaty. Watch closely for this signing. It will signal the 7 years of the Tribulation are about to begin.

I. Message from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to the Jewish Communities of the Diaspora on the Occasion of Israel's 50th
Independence Day
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

May 1998 - Iyar 5758

This year we celebrate the State of Israel's 50th birthday, a landmark in our history. I believe we can be proud of our accomplishments in this half century.

Even before the State was officially declared, we were attacked from all sides, and most military experts doubted that the new state would survive. But we have not only survived against great odds. We have performed what can only be described as a modern miracle. We have gathered millions of exiles to our land, developed a thriving economy, and attained international standing in the sciences and the arts,
in technology and in agriculture. With resolve and courage we have proved again and again that we can defend ourselves against all enemies.

These achievements have convinced our neighbors of our permanence in the region. Egypt and Jordan have signed peace treaties with us, we have established relations with other Arab countries, and started a peace process with our Palestinian neighbors.

There are few sacrifices and concessions Israel is unwilling to make to achieve peace with all its neighbors. But a fundamental requirement must be satisfied: security.

This should have been self evident. The very definition of peace includes the absence of violence and war. Terrorism and threats of violence are incompatible with the peace process.

Yet many expect Israel to withdraw from areas that are the cradle of Jewish civilization, to relinquish control over strategic assets, and to leave itself vulnerable to attack despite the absence of any credible assurance of security. This we cannot do. To treat the matter of security lightly is to abdicate our responsibilities as a government. Jews everywhere must remain united in demanding that security be an integral, indispensable component of the peace
process. Only then can we achieve real peace.

Ever since the struggling days of the State's beginning, unity has been our invaluable weapon. And whenever cracks seem to appear in this bond, we prove time and again that in times of trouble or when facing a national challenge we set aside our differences and act as one people.

The bond between Israel and the Diaspora is vital to our survival. It is what gives the Jewish people strength in the present and confidence in the future.

Not every goal has been attained, not every challenge has been met. As we mark 100 years of modern Zionism and enter Israel's 50th year we must not lose sight of the purpose of Zionism: the ingathering of the Jewish people in the Jewish state.

With Israel's economy developing at an extraordinary pace and with its standard of living approaching that of the most advanced nations, there is every reason for Jews everywhere to consider Aliyah. I am certain that a majority of the Jewish people will be living in Israel by the time we celebrate the State's 60th anniversary.

We shall also widen the circle of peace to encompass all our neighbors, narrow the socio-economic gaps in our society, and resolve the differences between our religious streams.

Let us not rest on our laurels. But let us also view our magnificent achievements with pride, and feel confident that we will successfully face all challenges and overcome all obstacles.

We are one people, united forever by faith, history and a shared destiny. With best wishes for Hag Sameach from Jerusalem, Israel's eternal capital,

Sincerely,
Benjamin Netanyahu

Persecution -- How would Americans respond if this were to arrive on our shores?

I am not going to apologize for the contents of this forwarded message. We as believers in the Body of Christ need to realize that these things are going on and now have to get on our knees and interceed for those in need.

God bless,

This letter came (encrypted) from a missionary stationed in Indonesia to a church in Dallas which supports them. Let's join them in prayer for this situation and pass this along to those who will pray.

June 18, 1998
Greetings from Indonesia,
We thank God because of your faith and love in the Lord Jesus Christ. As we read
FBCD Sunday bulletins our hearts rejoice with you - the victories and also
challenges. We pray the Good Lord prospers the Church beyond human
limitations.

Indonesia is facing an unprecedented critical and dangerous turn at this very
moment. As you probably watch in the World News or CNN. A revolution is
going on. The sudden economic collapse. The political turbulence unending. And
the riots with killings, lootings, and rapings are stalking the minority groups here
(Christians and Chinese).

Millions lost their jobs. Inflation is speeding like a bullet. More than half of our 220
million people are living under the poverty line. Extremists are doing the best they
can to politicize the situation. Hence the atmosphere is just like a time bomb nearing
the explosion point. Hundreds of churches have been destroyed. Tens of thousands
of mainly Chinese businesses have been looted, burned, and destroyed.

The saddest thing that happened during the May 13 and 14 destructions is the
raping of Chinese women (mostly Christians). For example, a ten year old girl was
raped from behind and front - in public. Her mom took her to the hospital. And the
daughter died in her arms. A teenage girl was raped - in public. She, then, cut her
wrist, wrote her mom a note that she was ashamed to live. Then committed suicide.
Scores of mothers committed suicide after learning their daughters were raped.
One lady shared with an Australian radio: she saw a Chinese girl was burned alive
in her car. At the same time two were raped in public and then thrown into the fire.
Another case: The mob entered a 26 story apartment in Jakarta. Looting and
destroying from the first to the 26th floor. Upon exiting, they undressed, sexually
assaulted and raped women they met.

The jealousy, envy, and hatred are unbridled and unchecked by law. The mob is
not satisfied by looting and smashing properties, they burn and destroy; they are
not content hurting people physically, they have torn open our chests and trampled
our hearts by raping, even our kids. People stop asking God "Why?", and started
to ask "How long?" As far as our context is concerned, it will be terribly long and
no sign of stopping unless by God's miraculous intervention or Christ should come
back.

Some Christians today are meeting not only to pray and to study the Word, but
also to prepare should the worst (which is yet to come) befall. Last year, during the
riots and destruction of churches and stores we were scared and sometimes hid
ourselves. Now most are preparing to withstand the powers of evil. We cry for our
wives and daughters. They (I dare not mention their religion) even raped a six year
old girl. IN PUBLIC. Hell has broken loose upon God's people in Indonesia at this
time. Countless are suffering physically. All are violated and hurt emotionally and
psychologically.

My wife, Caroline meets with some ladies regularly. And some are asking the Lord
to come back right now. Some, even asked my wife to go to the States for safety.
We have no refuge but the Lord Himself. We are afraid to go to public places.
Even we are fearful when our kids are in schools. Yet people need Jesus, even
more at this fearful moment. And this we are called to do in the power of the Holy
Spirit.

Yet, as I look at my three daughters, Irene (12), Stephanie (8) andRachel (5), I
cannot help but shed some tears in praying for them. The road for them is long,
hard, and dangerous. I mean terribly dangerous for them. Because hatred is being
propagated and destruction (physical and psychological) tolerated and no one is
being punished for fear of the majority's disapproval and revenge. In peaceful times
we rarely think of heaven. Much less about hell. But even the sceptics here are
talking about the reality of hell. In short, our lives, and the lives of our kids are in
literal danger day by day.

Please uphold us in your prayers. Write us if you can. Soon basic necessities of life
will disappear; and even now are skyrocketing. The only thing that is growing faster
is politics and the accumulation of lies upon lies. We are choked full of lies and our
spirits cannot breathe. We can find comfort in the fellowship of true saints. And we
can only keep looking above where our help would come. Please pray for our
safety. And the continuation of our ministries, though we have to rethink our
strategies. But the message remains the same. Because it is the solution to our
problems here and problems elsewhere.

Thank you for caring and sharing.
In Christ Victorious
End forwarded message

"What a bunch of conspiracy nuts!"

Remember to tell yourself, "this can't be happening", when you buy your groceries and they scan your hand.

THE NEW WORLD ORDER

For those of us who still accept the Bible as God's revealed will to man, it's a matter of great concern to see the increasing propaganda for, and emergence of, a New World Order. Briefly put, beginning more than two thousand years ago both Old and New Testaments warned us that the culmination of history would be marked by the reunion of the nations of the old Roman Empire in Europe; the restoration of the state of Israel [and the increasing hostility of all nations toward her]; the implementation of a one-world governmental system; the
imposition of a world-wide cashless monetary system; the development of a synchretistic world religion, based upon man, and presided over by a false prophet; the rise to power of a benign world dictator, who [once firmly in control] would eliminate individual freedoms, demonstrate iron-willed ferocity and cruelty, and make himself the
object of worship; and world-wide apostacy, coupled with active persecution and execution of believing Jews and Christians. If you're interested, check for yourself in Ezekiel 38 and 39; Daniel 7; Zechariah 12-14; Matthew 24; 2 Thessalonians 4; and the Book of Revelation.

The phenomenal rise of the European Union, the amazing creation of the State of Israel, the increasing surrender of international authority and policing power to the U.N., recurrent and increasing currency and financial crises, and the gradual abandonment of the Biblical revelation on which Western civilisation was built,
all give us due warning that very tough and delusive times are coming. We should be as skilled in reading the spiritual portents of the times in which we live as we are in reading the weather, and we should prepare accordingly.

The following carefully-chosen books from various publishers are all solid, informative and factual, and would well repay careful reading. As for ourselves, we're trusting to the grace and mercy of God, and not in the dangerous chimera of "human progress", and we hope that you are too.

EXCERPTS FROM SENATOR JESSE HELMS' SPEECH BEFORE THE SENATE, ON 15 DECEMBER, 1987, WARNING AGAINST THE NEW WORLD ORDER:

"This campaign against the American people -against traditional American culture and values - is systematic psychological warfare. It is orchestrated by a vast array of interests comprising not only the Eastern establishment but also the radical left.

Among this group we find the Department of State, the Department of Commerce, the money center banks and multinational coporations, the media, the educational establishment, the entertainment industry, and the large tax-exempt foundations.

Mr. President, a careful examination of what is happening behind the scenes reveals that all of these interests are working in concert with the masters of the Kremlin in order to create what some refer to as a New World Order. Private organizations such as the Council on Foreign Relations, the Royal Institute of International Affairs, the Trilateral Commission, the Dartmouth Conference, the Aspen Institute for Humanistic Studies, the Atlantic Institute, and the Bilderberger Group serve to disseminate and to coordinate the plans for this so-called New World Order in powerful business, financial, academic, and official circles. . . .

The psychological campaign that I am describing, as I have said, is the work of groups within the Eastern establishment, that amorphous amalgam of wealth and social connections whose power resides in its control over our financial system and over a large portion of our industrial sector. The principal instrument of this control
over the American economy and money is the Federal Reserve System. The policies of the Industrial sectors, primarily the multinational corporations, are influenced by the money center banks through debt financing and through the large blocks of stock controlled by the trust departments of the money center banks.

Anyone familiar with American history, and particularly American economic history, cannot fail to notice the control over the Department of State and the Central Intelligence Agency which Wall Street seems to exercise....

The influence of establishment insiders over our foreign policy has become a fact of life in our time. This pervasive influence runs contrary to the real long-term national security of our Nation. It is an influence which, if unchecked, could ultimately subvert our constitutional order.

The viewpoint of the establishment today is called globalism. Not so long ago, this viewpoint was called the "one-world" view by its critics. The phrase is no longer fashionable among sophisticates; yet, the phrase "one-world" is still apt because nothing has changed in the minds and actions of those promoting policies consistent with its fundamental tenets.

Mr. President, in the globalist point of view, nation-states and national boundaries do not count for anything. Political philosophies and political principles seem to become simply relative. Indeed, even constitutions are irrelevant to the exercise of power. Liberty and tyranny are viewed as neither necessarily good nor evil, and
certainly not a component of policy.

In this point of view, the activities of international financial and industrial forces should be oriented to bringing this one-world design - with a convergence of the Soviet and American systems as its centerpiece - into being. . . . All that matters to this club is the maximization of profits resulting from the practice of what can be
described as finance capitalism, a system which rests upon the twin pillars of debt and monopoly. This isn't real capitalism. It is the road to economic concentration and to political slavery."

ICHABOD! The Glory is Departed

Today, Sept. 21st, Rosh ha-Shanah the Jewish new year 5759, certainly marks a time of a new thing. What that new thing is seems to be already showing its head. This morning President Clinton's deposition to the grand jury was played out on the airwaves for all to see. For four hours technical details of his activities were sought to find if the president had lied under oath. Never before has a president of any country, let alone the United States, been placed in such humiliating circumstances before the people of the world. Never before has
a president been interrogated to this degree and in such a public way before friend and foe, large nations and small. Surely, the decline of this republic is reaching its rock bottom. This is not the beginning of anything really new, but it is the end of a long progression directed at the final collapse of every virtuous and respectful
principle this nation has long cherished. While it is true that this country's history is fraught with many mistakes, there never was a time when such strong determined thrusts were put forth to literally destroy all noble instincts which may have remained in our nation. To publicly humiliate a sitting president is to publicly humiliate the very institution of the presidency and to publicly humiliate the nation as a whole. It seems that a foreboding change has come to us.

THE END OF MONEY

In recent months there has been an overwhelming deluge of scandalous information disseminated worldwide. When reading this information and contemplating its implications, one can become weary, to say the least. One can become disheartened since no believable solutions are forthcoming.

Over the past 100 years the world has undergone a gigantic transformation and it will never be returned to its previous state. The leadership of the country over this time has steadily marched toward the Utopian dream of a single world society. While some of the goals of this class have sounded wonderful and made many in the
world and our own nation hope in a glorious future, what has actually transpired is a degradation few comprehend even now.

In the early part of the century great changes were put into effect regarding our currency. We used to use money in our own country but money was eliminated a generation ago. Now we live on a fiat currency. No real money is used these days. An illustration of this can be seen in a simple illustration. Let us suppose we were using gold for money. We might spend an ounce of gold for a set of new tires for our car. Suppose the president of the country stood up and announced that the economy has collapsed and the money is of no value. One could still take his ounce of gold and trade it for a set of tires if the tire company had a use for gold. While it is true he might not take your gold and want some of the trees you have to trade instead, gold still has some use.

But, suppose you are using our current fiat money and the president stands before the cameras and says your money is now worth nothing. All you have is paper with the picture of dead presidents on it. I suppose one could stuff a pillow with it, but there are other materials more useful for that. The more shocking reality is that
most of the "money" in use today is only recorded on electronic tape. All your savings or stock holdings are no more than some ones and zeros on some computer's storage drive. That can disappear like a puff of smoke. This may have something to do with the low rate of savings in this country since one cannot really save money because there is none. One can only save smoke.

The final death stroke to the money came during the Reagan years when the national debt was driven up to over five trillion dollars. This locked the country into a slavery of debt and on the basis of a fiat system of money. In other words, people have to spend the rest of their lives working to pay back nothing.

It may be helpful to simplify this illustration. When real money was in use, a person might decide to build a house for himself. He may get a friend or two to help. Mom was in the kitchen and everyone was fed while they worked together and the house was built. These folks might also go on to build the homes of the ones who helped them. In a relatively small matter of time all the families had a home and no one owed any money for it.

Today, when one gets a home it is usually from a home seller. He finances the home at the bank. He pays the principle and also about 400% interest over thirty years. He may pay for the principle in a few years and the rest of the time he is paying the interest having become a slave of the bank. That is the reality of going to a system that creates money out of debt rather than using real money. It doesn't cost the bank a thing to loan you money. It is still all in there where it started. You get a loan and the numbers show up on the computer screen. You pay the builder who has some numbers show up on the same computer screen. All the money still stays on the screen. In all of this the bankers make a huge profit on your labor and your transaction and they did nothing to earn it. You promise to work for them for twenty years just for the privilege of having a place to
sleep. Pretty slick!

THE END OF NATIONAL DEFENSE

In the last century there were huge efforts made in international Christian evangelism. Great hope was expressed by all and a feeling that many expressed that God was just and in control. This was the generation of "The Little House on the Prairie." Visions of hardworking people who built their towns on faith and spiritual
purpose was the picture of that age. While abuses did occur, the family moral values were loud and clear.

When World War I arrived the shattering of this image could not be fully comprehended. It was a great blow to the theory that God was in control. This was especially felt since He did not come as men expected. Certainly the prophets all chanted that WWI was the great time of trouble and Jesus would return again. He did not return
as expected and many were led to follow other voices. National despair increased with the Great Depression, the Dust Bowl and other shocks to the national ego. Certainly a great time of trouble had arrived, but few expected it to look as it did and last as long as it did.

World War II seemed such a glorious event for the United States. The country survived a generation after that on the good feelings of beating the bad dictator Adolph Hitler and Admiral Yamamoto. We sure showed them. We carried our flags with pride and sang our national anthem. Still, there were unperceived changes affecting us all. Americans once again had their hopes dashed in all of this that WWI was not the war to end all wars after all. The world was truly unpredictable. World War II revived the economy and the nationalistic pride, but men's minds were turning to money and national power as the source of happiness rather than God since their idea of God was forever altered. Even professed Christians who went to church every week were silently ushered into the theater of mammon. They thought they were still believing in God, but they little suspected
they had changed masters. The war broke forever the awe in which men held women. These ladies trudged off to the bomb factories to make weapons of mass destruction while their men went off to the killing fields. The family would never be the same again.

When the Vietnam War appeared, it ruined the national defense forever. The degrading, demoralizing effect of that war has never been erased nor will it ever be. Out of that conflict came an even more disillusioned populace. A depressed, demoralized society emerged which became mean and vindictive. We will strike back over almost anything without considering the harm that we do. Our movies in the national theaters all show this violence and sexual aggression. Our thrills come from the likes of Arnold Schwarzenegger in The Terminator II.
It seems fitting that the subtitle of that film is, "Judgment Day."

The armed services has been transformed into a job or a technological police thrust against international criminals, whether they be presidents or terrorists. The armed services are no longer viewed as the place where patriotic brothers all came together to go out and fight the evil empire. Strangely, it seems if another world war
were held, few Americans would attend. War will never be the same again. It now seems that it will only involve a host of meanspirited people all taking out their revenge on the other. War has never been a good thing but it was at least perceived honestly as necessary. Now war is mob rule and everyone is harmed by it.

THE END OF MORALITY

Over the past fifty years our moral climate has been chipped away--almost imperceptibly at first. In the beginning there were chides of "the Puritan ethic" to make the nation ashamed of being too virtuous. It seems that the wars changed men also. Their morals declined and their expectation of women lowered. They desired
their women to become less strict in keeping themselves until marriage. These dogs in heat were eager to bring down their women to their own low level. They were largely successful.

Of course, morality involves more than sex. It involves basic honesty. Last week President Jimmy Carter asked for an investigation of the Sudan aspirin factory to find out if the place was really a place that manufactured poison gas as the president had said. The crowd at the White House would not hear of it. They launch out and
murder some innocent people and then refuse to look at the evidence that they just murdered some innocent people. Perhaps some individuals don't like Sudanese because some of them will not bow the knee to the U.S., but it must be remembered that they are people too and, yes, God created Sudanese. They have families and children. They want their children to grow up as good, responsible citizens. They have meals around the family table as Americans do. They sing and worship together. Hiding behind the story of poison gas in the parking lot
will not erase the specter of this murderous attack.

Recently, the trumpets blew at the White House announcing the capture of the terrorist who blew up the American Embassy. The Washington crowd were all puffed up so much their buttons were popping off their
chests. They parroted the confession of the terrorist and how he had confessed he was connected with the great terrorist of the desert, Osama Bin Laden. No one said that the confession was obtained after three days of torture. The alleged terrorist was given no sleep, water or food for three days. It may be that this man did commit the crime, but how can we know for sure? One could gather a million Third World individuals and expose them to that sort of treatment and find any number of people who would confess just so they could get a drink. But, then again, when a nation loses its morals, one will never know anything for sure.

The Clinton affairs have ended the morality of this country forever. The Greensburg Tribune-Review reported last week that a Pennsylvania lawyer compared President Clinton's situation to his client while he asked for leniency for a boy blamed in a warehouse fire. Defense attorney Timothy Kinney said the court should take it easy on the boy because like Clinton, he denied any wrongdoing at first, then later cooperated, and that it is only human nature to act that way. This may seem like a small thing, but this will be replayed millions of times
in the lives of Americans and the world.

If when first exposed, the president had repented and resigned, it may have not had such a tragic impact on the country. Instead, the host of lies and false defense thrust upon the nation over years of time has ground the image into our psyche forever. The nation will never go back to what it was. The Clinton scandal is the period at
the end of the immoral sentence of our age. It is finished. Our nation's character will be seen as degraded as Clinton's. His denials and false repentance along with the strong defense of his advisors, friends and lawyers will set the tone and tenor for the future whether or not he stays in office. Lawyers, parents and children will
reflect on the president and other corrupt politicians when they go out to make their moral decisions or yield up to their evil passions. If the president of the United States does it, why should I not do it? Why should I go to jail if the president does not go to jail for the same things?

The greatest impact, however, will be seen in the collapse of the human trust. Despair of honest men in those who lead will be felt in a million ways not fully perceived by most individuals at this time. We are not in a simple crisis but the end of every stable foundation. Our money cannot be trusted. Our armed forces cannot be trusted. Our national leaders and courts of law cannot be trusted. We have all been thrust into a miasma of lies and evil subterfuge. We have been made pawns and slaves in a wicked and despicable plan to ruin humanity.
Our nation did not stay awake and so it has reaped the hurricane.

THE SOLUTION

There are many good-intentioned people who call for national repentance. They want to elect a good man to office and then they think everything will be okay. This simply will never occur. The national end of probation has come. If one has eyes to see, he can clearly see the signs of death and dying everywhere. This is not true
for this nation only, but for the world as well.

There is only one solution now offered for those who have ears to hear and eyes to see. For others there is no solution. People are not going to change now, but for those who hear the voice the Scriptures say, "Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues." How does one
come out? Is it not true that when a building appears to be crumbling the residents will make haste to get out of it? When a building burns, are there not those who race for the exits? When a tree is felled by the cutter, is it not true that those around get out of the way? It is the same today for those who can see the danger.

It is past time, I think, for us to despair of the gods in which we have trusted. The first god is money in which we have been shown has no support. While we use money, it cannot be trusted because men who manipulate it cannot be trusted. The slavery of debt should be a plague word to us. The stock market speculation should be abandoned. We know what will come of it. "For in one hour so great riches is come to naught." Rev 18:17.

Secondly, we should abandon politics. What have the elected gods of this nation done other than totally demoralize the people? They talk the talk but do not walk the walk. The schemers in politics have spun a tale that we have hungrily gobbled up, but we should eat no more of their words. We should come away from them. Leave the voting to those who love a lie and love to partake of fables.

In the most recent election, State Representative Charles Key of Oklahoma was not reelected. He fell out of favor when he proceeded to get to the real causes of the Oklahoma bombing. He wanted to find out who else was involved and how government played a part in it. He was at the receiving end of the rage of those in high places who wanted nothing to do with finding out the truth of the matter. I am glad he was not reelected. Good men need to come out of that so that they might save themselves. The politicians will die in the holocaust.
Their benefactors will see to that. They will then see how they have trusted in smoke, but it will be too late for them.

We should no longer pay for the abuses of power. Let fornicators pay for their own fornication. Let liars pay for their liars. Let those who practice extortion in the departments of taxation extort someone else. While this may be impossible to fulfill in every particular, if we are not chasing money, it can be fulfilled sufficiently.

Let us not fight in their wars of conquest. Let us no longer defend the harlot from her enemies. Let us free ourselves from the chains of oppression. Let those who have eyes to see believe in God and trust in His provision and protection. Men should leave those churches where puffed up preachers preach for an hour and say nothing. We should leave congregations who preach their doctrines but have no fire. They do not hear the voice or see the way. They say, but they do not do what they say. Religion has become a thing to be avoided. One should follow God instead.

Finally, let us leave the cities. I once lived in a very fine house in a city in California. I also had a very respectable mortgage. As I sat in my fine house one day, I thought, what would happen to this house if the water was turned off? It would be of no value whatever. What if the trucks failed to bring food to the cities? I would be in the midst of a crazed mob seeking something to eat. What if the electricity was turned off? My furnace, radio and TV would not work. I left behind my fine house. Soon our cities will be filled with terrified and crazed citizens who are seeking food and water. All of this love and peace one hears these days will be out the window. Men will see what men are truly made of.

Those who accuse someone of sexual harassment will be a laughing stock. Women will be freely raped, murder will be common. Looting the goods of the neighbors will be the new national sport. The terror of a
society when the controls and safeguards are gone has been seen in some underdeveloped countries, but now will be exported worldwide. Everyone will then see how their gods have been no help to them.

Some have the idea of stocking food up and piling up a number of guns. I must say at this point that guns beget guns. Shooting people is not what God means when He says come out of her. Shooting people only creates a larger terror. Piling up food is of no help either. Your enemies will simply come and steal it from you. If you have a gun, they will kill you first and then steal it from you. If you think you will hold off the mob with your hunting rifle, you deceive yourself. Their tanks will be much more efficient than your Uzi. For those who hear the voice and take the warning their bread and water will be sure. Their safety will be guaranteed.

What is it that makes a people strong? It is the family first. Secondly, there must be trust in the medium of exchange in the commerce of that family. After that, there must be trust in the national leaders of that family. All of these things must be founded on an unmovable rule. In our case it was the Bible in our early beginning. Now they claim that unmovable rule is national law. It has been revealed that the immovable rule of law is movable whenever it suits the movers, whether judge or politician. When the truly unmovable rule is removed, you have uncertainty in what is right. That leads to the breakdown of commerce and national leadership. The
family is discarded. This day this is fulfilled in your hearing. Every wall has been torn down, every support has been removed. It may certainly be said now, Ichabod! The glory is departed from the nation: because the ark of God was taken.

I know the feelings about prophets of doom and gloom. It is not a happy thing to hear bad news but those who take warning may be benefitted and saved from that evil day. The world does not know how far it has come. The modern conditions have stealthily approached and few recognize their danger. There is a text of Scripture that
clearly speaks to our situation. It will be well if we take heed.

"Thus says the Lord GOD: Disaster after disaster! Behold, it comes. An end has come, the end has come; it has awakened against you. Behold, it comes. Your doom has come to you, O inhabitant of the land; the time has come, the day is near, a day of tumult, and not of joyful shouting upon the mountains. Now I will soon pour out my wrath upon you, and spend my anger against you, and judge you according to your ways; and I will punish you for all your abominations. And my eye will not spare, nor will I have pity; I will punish you according
to your ways, while your abominations are in your midst. Then you will know that I am the LORD, who smite. Behold, the day! Behold, it comes! Your doom has come, injustice has blossomed, pride has budded. Violence has grown up into a rod of wickedness; none of them shall remain, nor their abundance, nor their wealth; neither shall there be preeminence among them. The time has come, the day draws near. Let not the buyer rejoice, nor the seller mourn, for wrath is upon all their multitude." (Ezekiel 7:5-12, RSV).

PAY SPECIAL ATTENTION TO THE LAST WISH

JERUSALEM - With a wail of sunset sirens and prayerful pilgrimages to the Western Wall, Israel ushered in the New Year - 5759 by the Jewish calendar.

Preparation were festive but frantic Sunday in the hours before the start of the two-day Rosh Hashana holiday, and some people's nerves were on edge over threats from Islamic militants.

On streets and in markets, shoppers swarmed and sellers shouted. Children scooted underfoot while Israeli soldiers patrolled warily.

Security was tight, with Palestinians from the West Bank and Gaza Strip banned from entering Israel. The militant Islamic group Hamas had threatened bombings and kidnappings of Israeli soldiers during the holidays after two of its fugitives were killed earlier this month by Israeli troops.

Jerusalem's covered Mahane Yehuda market, scene of last-minute shopping sprees Sunday, was itself the target of a suicide bombing in July 1997 that killed 15 people and injured dozens. Holiday shoppers, though, put those memories aside.

''Sweet challah bread for a sweet new year!'' bakery workers called, pointing to shining, fresh piles of braided loaves. Shoppers filled baskets with apples and honey, fish heads and dates, vegetables and spices.

Pnina Tel-Dan, who lives in the West Bank settlement of Maale Adumim, was one of thousands shopping for the makings of holiday meals.

''For me, buying spices is like buying jewelry - all these beautiful colors!'' she said, waving at powdery heaps of red, green and yellow.

Rosh Hashana is marked by special prayers and readings in synagogues and the blowing of a shofar, or ram's horn. Many observant Jews go to the Western Wall in the old city, Judaism's holiest site, to pray.

Most businesses in Israel closed for the holiday, and public transportation stopped running as well.

Israelis were mainly spending the holiday with family at home or heading out for vacations at spots like the Sea of Galilee or Egypt's Sinai peninsula.

The continuing deadlock with the Palestinians put a damper on celebrations for some. American mediator Dennis Ross left Israel before dawn Sunday after yet another failed attempt to revive negotiations.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat blamed one another for the impasse.

Israeli stores were filled all week with shoppers buying holiday presents, and on Sunday, it seemed that every other person hurrying past was toting a big bouquet or a cellophane-wrapped gift basket.

Israeli merchants, not normally noted for effusiveness, constantly called out ''Shana tova!'' - Happy New Year! - to customers and passers-by.

Fruit merchant Menahem Mizrahi stopped selling bananas long enough for a burst of bravado.

''Who's afraid?'' he said. ''The people of Israel are alive and well.''

Tal Yaakov, a 46-year-old resident of Jerusalem, dispatched one of his children to pick up one last bag of vegetables. His New Year's wish?

''Peace,'' he said. ''And maybe a new government.''

ONE STEP CLOSER

The London INDEPENDENT, 22 September, 1998

By David Usborne in New York

Tony Blair pledged yesterday to sign an agreement with the United Nations within six months to formalise the provision of British military resources, including British troops, for UN military actions around the globe to resolve regional tensions and deliver humanitarian assistance.

The offer, outlined by the Prime Minister at the annual UN General Assembly in New York, amounts to a powerful reaffirmation of British commitment to the UN. It could provide the seed for a standing rapid-reaction force permanently at the UN's disposal and consisting of troops from multiple nations. Britain is the first country
to offer to forge such a relationship with the organisation.

Mr Blair, who later attended a seminar with President Bill Clinton at New York University on the so-called "Third Way" model of new-left government, also appealed for a recasting of the world's financial bodies such as the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.

The offer of help with UN conflict resolution will be especially welcomed by the UN secretary-general, Kofi Annan. Calls by the UN for some form of standing army arrangement have met fierce opposition in the US Congress on the grounds that it would give the UN too much unilateral authority.

Mr Blair underlined the need for the body to react more swiftly to regional tensions when they arise and to avoid becoming ensnared in conflicts that have already flared as happened in Bosnia.

"The UN needs to act fast. Fast action can prevent conflict escalating, underpin a fragile truce and save lives," he declared.

The Prime Minister said the recent defence review in Britain was "transforming our ability to contribute to peacekeeping and humanitarian operations: more and better equipped rapid reaction forces; additional strategic lift; and better logistics capability".

He went on: "I announce today that within six months we will conclude a specific agreement with the UN to ensure that it can make rapid use of what we have to offer when it's needed."

While offering little concrete detail, the Prime Minister said it was time, meanwhile, to take a "fresh look at the international financial architecture".

Britain is due to begin discussions on reforming the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank with American officials in Washington later this week.
