Polls can be cooked several ways, mainly:

1. Phrasing the questions and limiting the scope (eg. Yes/ No);
2. Number of people questions: higher the number and lower the error rate, more accurate the polling; and
3. The Zip Codes one targets (Manhattan vs. Iowa, San Francisco vs. Kansas, etc.)

I've done market research for commercial purposes several years and interpret statistics for even longer, and I have come to the conclusion that to interpret a poll one MUST start with the original focus group. Government statistics are always re-adjusted anywhere from 30-200%.

Those who live by the polls, crap out by the polls.
