From Yahoo / Informix board:

"Informix future/history SchatteNotShoddy"

I have been reading this board for over a year. I was an IBM systems programmer for 19 years, then UNIX server man for last 13+ plus years. First, experience with Informix was in 1989 after first experience with ORACLE in 1988.

Used both and all three DBMS on UNIX, Informix matched SQL
standard better than ORACLE and SYBASE. I worked on CASE
generated SQL, ORACLE for large project in Australia, Informix for Army HOMES project, and SYBASE on Arizona project. SYBASE barely worked! My point is that ORACLE is only leader
but not the BEST, Informix is! As software developer and
architect of software still running today, Informix will
prosper in the future!!

Also, afer personally involved in recent major OODBMS failures,
I have to believe that relational DBMS and Informix have great future. Also, I am fluent in WEB technology and know that this will require a scalable DBMS on the server.

People on this board have a very short term viewpoint.

I became long (really long, after the big IFMX drop last year.
When returning from Australia in 1991, I saw ORACLE go through the same disaster. I have been loading up on IFMX the last year,
knowing that IFMX will recover as did ORACLE.

Retirement to the lake is in my near future!

Good luck longs, and short term traders take your chance!

Service Merchandise is an IFMX user yes, but big deal! They're bleeding as bad as IFMX! Check them out, they're hurting, fighting to survive. If WalMart starts selling jewelry, it would be the last nail in their coffin. I'll wager that IFMX didn't get much if any new revenue on this deal. When was the last time you were in a Svc Merch?
