Somehow I must not be making my point in an articulate manner, because I am not persuading you to change your mind!! ;^)

Seriously, though, Clinton says he will not resign, but the general sentiment is that he will do so if it is clear that he would face impeachment proceedings.

Not sure what LBJ has to do with what we were discussing. I don't think he did the right thing in the Vietnam war, so I couldn't defend him. I do think he was a patriotic American, and he did not run for a second term because he was in some ways an honorable man.

Maybe you have been away from America so long that you are not experiencing the same putrid smells wafting off the Clinton administration that most of us are. (Disclaimer: I usually support liberal Democratic candidates, so for me to say this it must be pretty stinky.)

I did forget one thing--the way Clinton will hide behind any woman who will let him, even momentarily. It was less than gracious of him to say that Monica was Betty Currie's friend, that Betty suggested he buy her a trinket while he was on vacation with his family, that she was coming to the White House to see Betty, and to expect his secretary to lie for him. She, like many White House staffers, has incurred over $100,000 in attorney fees already because of the president's conduct.

The reason that the Starr investigations have not been successful in indicting Bill or Hillary in other scandals is because they are running an ongoing criminal enterprise from the White House. They are both very good at obstruction of justice, perjury and subordination of perjury. Starr has a good solid record of fraud convictions, in particular, however, of lesser players in these enterprises.

It will be curious to see whether Clinton's upcoming trips abroad are as successful as they once were. I know that for me personally, after his speech on Monday night I can see through him, and I will scrutinize carefully ever other thing he ever says, and will be reluctant to believe him. The Irish people are a little on the conservative side. I wonder how they will deal with him, whether there will be changes in the way they welcome him. I do know that some Democrats are cutting their losses and not asking for his help in upcoming, close campaigns. I feel sorry for people like Tony Blair, who went to bat for him, vouching for his trustworthiness. Clinton knew that the allegations about Monica were accurate, so the fact that he dragged his advisors, his Cabinet and any foreign leader who was in town into this mess is beyond me. He himself made the whole thing public.
